When it comes to learning how to get clear skin, you have to do yourself one big favor. You must avoid all of the lies and half truths about acne and start listening to the real solutions. Some of the lies I want to talk about are lies about connections between diet and acne, myths about washing your skin and I’ll talk a bit about why drug companies are so keen to make products that force us to keep purchasing every month.
Let’s take the diet and acne connection, shall we? So often we hear experts say something like “It’s been proven that there is no connection between your diet and acne. Don’t focus on it if you want to know how to get clear skin.” They may even cite studies and their conclusions. What you don’t hear them say is that rather than being a truly conclusive study, they were cursory at best. The latest study done in America was conducted in 1970 and lasted one whole week. Just think about that for a minute. How many advances in medical science have been made in the past 5 years alone, setting aside the other 34 years?? On top of that, breakouts take much longer than 7 days to occur.
Even more, there have been many studies conducted on people who live outside of our culture; the Kitavan, Inuit and Ache. All of their diets consisted of completely natural foods that they grew or captured themselves. How many recorded cases of acne did they have? Not one. What makes this more convincing to people who might claim “Well they have different genes” is that the Inuit were studied when they began eating a western style diet. The results?
Acne. Acne where they never had a problem before hand. Obviously diet plays some role and is a major factor in how to get clear skin.
Moving along to washing your face. I hate when I see people mention this ever. Worrying about your hygiene won’t do a thing for your acne. People who don’t have acne can walk around with diet covered skin and not get a single breakout. Dirt doesn’t cause acne.
A few people claim things like “It’s not the dirt, but you do have to take care of the excess oil on your face.” Or they’ll mention the “t-zone” to reinforce the idea of excess oil. This is one of those more common how to get clear skin myths. This is in no way beneficial for you because you’re only doing your face a diservice. Besides, washing obviously only takes away the natural oils on the surface of the skin, which only causes you to breakout more.
Finally there is the biggest how to get clear skin myth of them all. All of the products sold to us. This is my favorite metaphor about why drug companies love to make these “cures” for acne. Say there’s a big, dirty pond in your back yard. Without fail, you always get mosquitoes who love the water lay their eggs there. Every year they come back.
One way to get rid of them is to spray chemicals in the backyard to kill them. This method works great; all of the mosquitoes die….but then they come back in a year. Your other alternative is to simply drain the pool and get rid of the problem forever. Similarly, that’s why we have all of these products on the market today. They’re designed to deal with the acne symptoms and are only made so we keep buying. If they sold cures, they’d only have you as a customer once. That’s why we have all of these commercials with pretty actresses who have great looking skin. They want us to feel bad enough about ourselves that we are compelled to buy their product.
Simply said, acne is something that begins inside of us. How to get clear skin has nothing to do with how much you wash or how many new products you try. None of them will work because you’re only treating the symptoms and not the real causes.
How to get clear skin is not a big secret. You just need to treat the real problem
